CERAMICS
My work in clay is predominantly manipulated forms; most started as thrown vessels. Organic growth patterns found in animals, shells and plants interest me and inform much of the look of my work. The fast painterly process of Horsehair Raku is a very tedious and fragile process. For me it raises great inner spiritual power. Two of my more recent horsehair raku pieces where in the Associated Artist 100th Annual Show this past August in The Carnegie Museum of Art. In 2009 a pair of raku piece’s showed at the Carnegie.

The Nieghborhood Academy Celebrates the Pittsburgh Region's 250th Anniversary with Mosaic Murals
The seniors of the Neighborhood Academy have colaborated with artist Sandra Moore to build a mural which celebrates the region's 250 year anniversary. The mural was funded in part by the Heinz endowment and The Neighborhood Academy. The creation of the mural spanned a period of nine months from concept to completion.
This young group of seniors from The Neighborhood Academy have worked along Sandra to produce three 5x3 panels and five 1x3 panels of mosiacs. The materials in the pieces are hand built individually fired Raku, horsehair, and low fired clay. Glass elements were donated by Divia Davis. Other art work used in the mosiac are original pieces donated by the artists, Laura Shaffalo and Laura McLaughlin. The students canvased the Penn Ave corridor asking for stories and artifacts to be used in the creation of the mural. A journal was also kept to document the project and retain the oral stories of the community.

Painting / Drawing
One of my favorite mediums is oil paint. I have painted in oils since I was a child, working along side my mother who painted landscapes. My work is fantasy realism and my subjects are humans fitting into their natural environments.

I have been an artist all my life and for the past 30 years I have derived a livelihood from various trades within the art field. After receiving a B.F.A. in sculpture in 1975, I worked as a stringer photographer for the Associated Press until 1981 when I had my first child. I wanted a home based career and developed a successful negative retouching, print blending and photo restoration business. As my children became older I continued painting and with my talent in the technique of Trompe-l’oeil and knowledge of the theater I became a scenic artist for local professional theaters. Since 2006 I have been teaching Art at the Neighborhood Academy in Garfield, Pittsburgh, Pa. I show my work in gallery’s across Pittsburgh, Ohio, New York and the Three Rivers Arts Festival.
I started working with clay about 16 years ago. I am very interested in the sculptural and painterly aspects of the medium, particularly in the fast process of Raku and horsehair Raku. They received the Friends of Art Collection award and are in the permanent collection of the Pittsburgh Public schools. In 2009 a pair of raku piece’s showed at the Carnegie’s Associated Artist Annual.
